Who’ll lead VSB in 2011-12?

What if nobody wanted to be president of the Virginia State Bar?

You get there by submitting a petition with 50 names on it by Oct. 1 to be the president-elect designate 21 months before your term as president would begin. If more than one candidate files a petition, an election is conducted by a ballot mailed to VSB members by Nov. 5.

A candidate typically circulates a petition during the VSB annual meeting in June, but that didn’t happen this year.

If you’re interested in the job, you need to be aware of a condition that limits the field significantly. The organization’s bylaws require candidates for VSB president to have served two of the previous five years on VSB Council.
