Danville clerk cleared in stalking case

A judge has dismissed the stalking charge against Danville Circuit Court Clerk Gerald Gibson.

Gibson submitted an accord and satisfaction, a document indicating the accused has paid for damages and the complainant agrees that the matter can be dismissed.  The case was handled by substitute Judge R. Morgan Armstrong of Henry County, according to The Register & Bee .

The charge stems from a May 27 complaint that Barbara Lyn Burkett filed against Gibson.  According to court documents, Burkett said Gibson threatened her and her boyfriend’s life.  Burkett cited five different instances when, she claimed, Gibson followed her in his car or threatened her.

Gibson has been the clerk in Danville for 30 years.
