Judge Penn dies from crash injuries

Retired Loudoun County Circuit Judge Carleton Penn II died Aug. 26 from injuries suffered in a traffic crash. He was 86.

A graduate of the University of Virginia and its law school, Judge Penn received a Silver Star and a Purple Heart for his service in the Marine Corps in the South Pacific in World War II.

He was appointed to the circuit court bench in 1970 and retired in 1987 but continued to sit as a retired judge until 2004.
