Lawyer avoids further jail time in plea deal

A Roanoke bankruptcy lawyer whose practice collapsed amid a flurry of criminal charges and domestic strife was convicted today of misdemeanor disorderly conduct.  The plea agreement for Ann Marie Miller also included a no contest plea to misdemeanor assault.

Assuming no further troubles with the law, Miller will serve no additional jail time and the assault charge will be dropped, according to The Roanoke Times .  Miller had served a weekend in jail after her arrest in August.

Miller’s office is closed and her bankruptcy law practice is in receivership.  A  Virginia State Bar investigation continues.  The criminal charges stemmed from Miller’s disputes with her former boyfriend and his new wife.
