New Associations

Nathan J. D. Veldhuis and Priscilla R. Woody have joined the law firm of Allen, Allen, Allen & Allen as associates. Veldhuis will work in the firm’s Fredericksburg office. His practice focuses on personal injury, medical malpractice and mental health law. Woody will work in the firm’s Richmond office and focus on personal injury law and insurance litigation.

Neil E. McCullagh has joined the Richmond office of Spotts Fain as of counsel to the firm. His practice will focus on representing creditors.

Robert Q. Johnson has joined the Newport News office of Jones, Blechman, Woltz & Kelly as an associate. He will practice in the employment law and litigation groups.

Karen S. Elliott has joined the Richmond office of Sands Anderson Marks & Miller, where she joins the employment law team in the business and litigation practice group.

Charles Zdebski, Matthew Kirsner, Raymond Kowalski and Eric Schwalb have joined the Virginia and Washington offices of Eckert Seamans Cherin & Mellott. All four lawyers will practice in the firm’s utilities and telecommunications group.

J. Buckley Warden IV has joined the Richmond office of DurretteBradshaw as an associate in the firm’s commercial litigation practice group.

Cheryl L. Black has joined the Richmond office of Goodman, Allen & Filetti. She will practice in the firm’s intellectual property group.

J. David Crain and Bartholomew J. Gengler have joined the Norfolk law firm of Willcox & Savage as associates. Crain will focus his practice on catastrophic loss and insurance coverage litigation. Gengler will focus his practice on commercial litigation.

Christopher C. Campbell has joined the Reston office of Cooley Godward Kronish. He will practice in the firm’s intellectual property litigation practice.

Sarah Kunkleman has joined the Washington office of Roetzel & Andress as an associate attorney. Her practice is concentrated on civil litigation, with an emphasis on business and commercial litigation.

Katelin T. Moomau has joined the Alexandria law firm of Rich Rosenthal Manitta Dzubin & Kroeger, as an associate. She will concentrate in family law.

S. Perry Coburn has joined the Richmond law firm of Christian & Barton as an associate. He will focus his practice on general litigation matters, including contract and business tort disputes.

Michael A. Lormand has joined the Richmond law firm of Parker, Pollard & Brown as an associate.

Andrew Seth Baugher has joined the Charlottesville office of Lenhart Obenshain. He will focus his practice on intellectual property litigation, commercial and employment disputes and personal injury claims.

McGuireWoods has added 12 first-year associates in its Richmond office: Latoya Asia, Richard Beaulieu, Vincent A. Dongarra, William N. Federspiel, Milligan J. G. Goldsmith, Jeffrey B. Hassler, Jeffrey D. McMahan Jr., Evan Miller, Kevin J. O’Brien, Elizabeth Ridler, Elaine S. Ryan and K. Elizabeth Sieg.


Thomas R. Frantz, president and chief operating officer of Williams Mullen, will become chief executive officer on Feb. 1, 2010. Craig L. Rascoe, a business attorney and chair of the firm’s tax section, will become chief operating officer.

Edward J. O’Connell III, a partner in Falls Church office of Whiteford, Taylor & Preston and co-chair of the firm’s community association practice group, has been named an equity partner in the firm, effective Jan. 1, 2010.

Alexander “Sandy” Thomas, a partner in the Falls Church and Washington offices of Reed Smith, has been elected as the Virginia representative on the firm’s executive committee.

Professional and Community Groups

L. Lee Byrd, a member of the board of directors of Sands Anderson Marks & Miller and the firm’s chief operating officer, has been re-elected to a three-year term on the executive committee of the Law Firm Alliance and will serve as the secretary of the international law firm network for the next two years.

E. Andrew Keeney, a partner with Kaufman & Canoles, has been re-elected to the board of regents of the American College of Mortgage Attorneys.

Andrew J. Reinhardt of the Richmond firm of Kerns, Kastenbaum & Reinhardt has been named president elect of the Worker’s Injury Law and Advocacy Group.

Peter E. Broadbent Jr., a partner with the Richmond law firm of Christian & Barton, was named associate member of the year by the Virginia Cable Telecommunications Association.

Awards and Honors

Guilford D. Ware, a partner with the law firm of Crenshaw, Ware & Martin, received the Norfolk Foundation’s Barron F. Black Community Builder Award as a result of his extensive philanthropic support of and commitment to charitable endeavors in the Hampton Roads community.

Kenneth T. Roeber, an attorney at the firm of Sands Anderson Marks & Miller, was recognized as auxiliary officer of the year for his volunteer service with the Chesterfield County Police Auxiliary Unit.
