Virginia pro bono summit scheduled

Chief Justice Leroy Rountree Hassell Sr. has scheduled a pro bono summit meeting April 27 in Richmond to review lawyer volunteer efforts from around the state, according to Virginia Bar Association president John Epps.

In a letter to bar leaders, Epps explains the summit meeting is part of the chief justice’s initiative to beef up the provision of free legal services for those who cannot afford to pay.

According to Epps, the Richmond meeting would bring together volunteer lawyers, state and local bar association leaders, regional legal aid representatives, non-profit organizations placing legal services, law school representatives, state and local justice system workers and members of the judiciary to discuss current programs and results.

Regional meetings around the state also are planned.
