Delegate seeks change in judicial endorsements

Del. Dave Nutter, R-Christiansburg, has asked New River Valley bar associations not to endorse judicial candidates but only to determine those with basic qualifications.

The request has been met with some skepticism by members of the local bars, reports The Roanoke Times .

Nutter wrote to the Montgomery-Radford Bar Association and the Pulaski Bar Association, questioning the practice of local bars endorsing individual candidates. He asked the bars not to endorse candidates but to instead determine which candidate "meets basic qualifications for the bench," according to the paper.

  1. so basically Nutter wants political cover so whoever runs against him can’t criticize him if he pushes through a candidate who didn’t get the endorsement of the Bar Aassociations
