Town’s last police officer resigns

It may be a good time to live outside the law in Brookneal.

The last remaining police officer in the Campbell County town has quit the force, reports The News & Advance.

Officer Scott Earhart put in his resignation on Tuesday, citing “personal and professional reasons.” He had been serving as the town’s lone policeman in the months since the two other officers on the force were arrested on larceny charges.

Gang and drug activity are among the crimes reported in Brookneal, which has a population of 1,200. The Campbell County Sheriff’s Department will patrol the area until the town can hire more officers.
