LeClairRyan has added 16 intellectual property lawyers, a dozen of whom will open an office in Rochester, N.Y., from the international law firm of Nixon Peabody.
The other four lawyers will join LeClairRyan offices in Washington, Alexandria, Chicago and San Francisco.
Gary LeClair, chairman and CEO of LeClairRyan, said the additions will give the firm more strength in the areas of life sciences, pharmaceuticals and venture capital and continue its expansion in the Northeast.
The firm has opened or expanded its operations in the last few years in New York City, Boston, Newark, N.J., and New Haven, Conn.
Michael Goldman will join LeClairRyan’s board of directors, and Andrew Zappia will head the Rochester office. The total contingent from Nixon Peabody, including professional staff, will number 34.
Closer to home, the firm announced that three attorneys will join the medical malpractice and tort defense team in its Roanoke office: Paul C. Kuhnel, Charles L. Downs Jr. and Martha “Mollie” Elder.
Kuhnel will be a shareholder, Downs will be a partner and Elder will be counsel to the firm. All were formerly with WootenHart PLC.
With 325 lawyers, LeClairRyan is the largest it has ever been and completed its most profitable year ever last year, LeClair said.
