Judge Foster to retire in April

Newport News Circuit Judge Aundria D. Foster has notified the court that she will retire on April 1, 2011.

Although her term does not expire until 2012, she is stepping down due to a family medical situation.

Judge Foster’s departure will leave an open seat in the 7th Judicial Circuit. Newport News Chief Judge H. Vincent Conway Jr. said he is sure that the remaining judges will be able to take on the additional case load, but expressed concern over the delays and rescheduling the vacancy will create.

Judge Foster is the fourth judge in recent weeks to announce retirement plans. She joins Frederick County Circuit Judge John Prosser, Circuit Judge Richard Blanton of Farmville and General District Judge Dorothy Clarke of Arlington, all of whom will step down later this year.

Judge Conway has asked delegates to consider authorizing and funding a replacement in Newport News.
