Fairfax seat open on VSB council

A special election is scheduled for November to fill a recently vacated seat on the Virginia State Bar council from Fairfax County.

Elizabeth Finberg has resigned from the council, according to VSB executive director Karen Gould. Finberg had been with the Vienna litigation firm of Cochran and Owen. She is now assistant general counsel for the Public Interest Registry in Reston – the organization that administers “.org” websites on the Internet – according to the PIR website. Finberg could not be contacted for comment.

Postcards announcing the vacancy will go out next month, Gould said, with candidates’ petitions due by October 19. Ballots will be mailed to VSB active members in good standing before Nov. 2. For votes to count, they must be received in the VSB office by the close of business Friday, Nov. 16, Gould said.

Fairfax County’s 19th Circuit is the largest on the bar council, with more than 5,900 active lawyers. The county has 14 seats on the VSB council.
