Frey withdraws from AG race

The fields are shrinking as nomination season approaches for the 2013 state attorney general election. Fairfax Circuit Court Clerk John T. Frey has removed his name from contention for the Republican nomination for AG, according to the Richmond Times Dispatch.

The move leaves two state legislators vying for the GOP nomination: Del. Robert B. Bell, R-Albemarle, and Sen. Mark D. Obenshain, R-Harrisonburg.

On the Democratic side, Leesburg attorney Mike Signer last week dropped out of the contest, leaving Sen. Mark Herring, D-Leesburg, and Annandale lawyer Justin Fairfax as the two remaining contestants.

The Democratic field of statewide candidates for 2013 will be selected in a primary. Republicans will use a convention.
