The results from the 2013 Communications Contest, conducted by the National Federation of Press Women, are in. The staff at Virginia Lawyers Weekly brought home a gold, two silvers and a bronze.
• Executive Editor Deborah Elkins won a first place award for blogging. Her entry consisted of five blog posts for The VLW Blog.
• Web Editor Sarah Rodriguez took a second place for specialty articles on science or technology; she wrote on law firms’ use of mobile marketing and QR codes.
• Art Director Christine Watson gained a second place for newspaper page design, submitting several issues of Virginia Lawyers Weekly; she also received a third place for graphics, for her pen-and-ink illustration of Donald Trump.
The NFPW will present the awards at its annual meeting in Salt Lake City in August.
