Definitely worth more than a 1,000 words

moore mugshotMugshots from the 1920s are significantly cooler than mugshots from today.

That’s the claim of The Phoblographer, a photography website that explores photography and pop culture’s impact on the medium, in a post by Chris Gampat, editor-in-chief of the site. Gampat sifts through a trove of photos of criminals and accused criminals from Australia, preserved by the Sydney Living Museums.

And Gambat is right in his comparison of snaps today to those of yesteryear. You won’t find the usual bleary-eyed head-on shot and side-view shot with a sign among the 1920s shots. Whoever worked the police camera in Sydney was an artist, providing a window into his subjects. The photog even included the subject’s name, crime charged and date.
