Lawyer convicted of real estate fraud gives up license

real-estate-contract-2A Northern Virginia lawyer who admitted causing more than $400,000 in losses through phony charges in real estate “short sales” has agreed to give up her Virginia law license.

Hee Jung Jenny No – also known as Hee Jung Jenny Shin – was owner of both a real estate settlement company and a law firm in Alexandria. She pleaded guilty in May to one count of felony fraud conspiracy.

In a statement of facts, No acknowledged scamming banks by creating padded HUD-1 settlement statements for short sales, where the sale of a property brings less than the value of the liens.

No was among eleven defendants convicted this year of mortgage fraud and related offenses in Northern Virginia. Another Virginia real estate lawyer convicted in two related schemes – Sueng Oh Kang of Annandale – surrendered her Virginia law license in June.

No, 44, faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison when she is sentenced later this month.

Her licensed was revoked by agreement in an Aug. 21 order of the Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board.
