Deadline is Nov. 8 for U.S. attorney applications

Justice sealVirginia’s two U.S. senators say they now are accepting applications for the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine say they will recommend candidates to the White House, which then will nominate an individual to be considered by the Senate Judiciary Committee. The nomination is subject to confirmation by the full Senate.

Candidates should submit a cover letter and resume electronically to [email protected]. The deadline to receive applications is Friday, Nov. 8.

Former U.S. Attorney Neil H. MacBride resigned in September after one four-year term in office.

Dana J. Boente of Arlington, a veteran federal prosecutor, is serving as acting U.S. attorney in the Eastern District.

The Eastern District U.S. attorney’s office leads the nation in the prosecution of significant terrorism, espionage, financial fraud, gang crime, child protection and human trafficking cases, according to a news release from the two senators.
