Fired AP reporter lands at McGuireWoods

Bob LewisVeteran Virginia political reporter Bob Lewis is joining the Richmond-based law firm McGuireWoods as its senior manager for media relations, the firm announced Wednesday.

Lewis was fired by the Associated Press last month after mistakenly reporting that gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe had lied to a federal investigator about a fraudulent death benefits scheme.

Lewis’ firing provoked numerous supportive comments from politicians and others who encountered Lewis in his years of work as a journalist. He has been the AP’s state capitol correspondent for the past 13 years.

“He will strengthen our media relations capabilities in both the law firm and for our clients of McGuireWoods Consulting,” said firm chairman Richard Cullen.
