Former circuit judge joins Regent law faculty

West_Patricia-headFormer Virginia Beach Circuit Judge Patricia L. West is joining the faculty at the Regent University law school, the school announced Monday.

West most recently has served as chief deputy attorney general of Virginia under former Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli.

“Judge West is highly regarded in the legal community for her wise counsel, and Regent will be blessed to have such a dedicated public servant among our distinguished faculty and administration,” said Regent Chancellor and CEO Pat Robertson.

West joined the attorney general’s office in 2012 after serving as a judge in Virginia Beach Circuit Court. The General Assembly named her to the circuit bench in 2000 after she previously served in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

Former Gov. George Allen appointed West to serve in his cabinet as secretary of public safety in 1996. She also served as director of the state Department of Juvenile Justice and headed the Governor’s Commission on Juvenile Justice Reform.

West has served on the Regent law board of visitors since 2003.
