Senate Courts committee shuffled

The resignation of Democratic state Sen. Phillip Puckett this month tipped the balance of the Senate to Republicans, and they took advantage Monday by restructuring committees and naming Sen. Walter Stosch as president pro tem.

Removed from the Senate Courts of Justice Committee were Democrats Chap Petersen, a Fairfax County lawyer, and Leesburg lawyer Jennifer Wexton.

Added to the committee roster were Goochland lawyer Thomas Garrett Jr. and Fredericksburg insurance man Bryce Reeves, both Republicans.

Williamsburg Republican Thomas Norment Jr. assumes both the chair of the Courts Committee and the title of Senate Majority Leader.
