(AP) A prosecutor says a Mechanicsville physician has waived a jury trial in the January death of a jogger.
Hanover County prosecutor Stephen Royalty said Dr. Michael J. Carlson plans to enter a plea to involuntary manslaughter.
Carlson’s trial was expected to start next week in the death of 34-year-old Meg Menzies. Instead, media outlets report a plea hearing is now scheduled for Monday.
Court records show Menzies was struck by an SUV while running with her husband along a narrow shoulder along state Route 54 in Hanover County. She and her husband were training for the Boston Marathon.
Thousands of joggers paid tribute to Menzies with spontaneous runs in the days after her death.
