VSP say investigation of student arrest yielding calls

CHARLOTTESVILLE (AP) Virginia State Police say they have received more than two dozen emails and telephone calls regarding the March 18 arrest of a University of Virginia student by Alcoholic Beverage Control officers.

State police say they also have conducted numerous interviews and reviewed video, still photos and other evidence.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe ordered the state police to investigate the arrest of Martese Johnson. The 20-year-old was arrested by ABC law enforcement officers outside a Charlottesville bar.

Johnson’s arrest gained wide attention because of social media photos and videos that showed Johnson with his face bloody as he’s pinned to the ground by an officer.

State police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has information concerning the arrest to email state police at vfc@vsp.virginia.gov or call 1-877-482-8477.
