Virginia Lawyers Weekly//March 31, 2015
To the Editor:
In light of your publication’s coverage of the VSB’s decision to cancel its Midyear Legal Seminar to Jerusalem, I’d encourage you to continue to cover the ongoing responses from the broader Virginia legal community. [Here] is a letter sent today by the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond (JCFR) to the VSB. By way of disclosure, I currently serve as the Treasurer of the JCFR and was intimately involved in the preparation of the [abovementioned] letter. Serving in that capacity, however, has allowed me to recognize just how many of the JCFR’s leaders and supporters are dedicated and conscientious members of the Bar. Accordingly, this decision of the VSB has struck a deep nerve in the legal community of the Commonwealth.
Please consider paying continued attention in your publication to the developing reaction of the community to the VSB’s unfortunate decision.
Respectfully submitted,
Michael E. Sievers
