The bids of Dana J. Boente and John P. Fishwick Jr. for U.S. attorney positions in Virginia moved ahead Thursday with approval of each by the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee.
Both nominations were approved on voice votes by the committee Dec. 10.
The next step for Boente and Fishwick is consideration by the full Senate.
Boente is a 29-year veteran of the Justice Department.
Currently, Boente serves as the acting United States attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, a position he has held since 2013 and from 2008 to 2009, as well as first assistant United States attorney, a position he has held since 2007.
Fishwick is a private attorney in Roanoke who hopes to succeed Tim Heaphy as the U.S. attorney for the Western District.
