Attorney general announces magazine refunds

(AP) Attorney General Mark Herring says 265 Virginians are receiving restitution checks as part of a judgment against a door-to-door magazine sales company.

Herring said in a news release that the state’s share of the judgment is more than $20,000.

The lawsuit alleged that Florida-based KLMN Reader Services Inc. sold subscriptions with no intention of providing the magazines, failed to honor certain terms of its agreements, lied about subscriptions that would be donated to charities and soldiers overseas, and failed to issue refunds as required by law. Virginia won judgments against the company in Chesapeake Circuit Court in 2014 and 2015.
