VLW wins three VPA awards

vpa-2015-logoAll three members of the Virginia Lawyers Weekly editorial team brought home awards when the results of the Virginia Press Association’s 2015 News Contest were announced April 9 in Richmond.

Paul Fletcher, publisher and editor-in-chief, took first place for editorial writing. The topics of his entry were the General Assembly proposal to cloak the execution process, the fight over the appointment of Supreme Court Justice Jane Roush and the Supreme Court’s failure to adopt criminal discovery reforms.

Fletcher and News Editor Peter Vieth shared a first-place award for headline writing.

Executive Editor Deborah Elkins took third place in the public affairs writing category for her story on a new NLRB guidelines that complicate the employee handbook drafting process.

Virginia Lawyers Weekly competes in the specialty publication category, which includes publications such as the Washington Business Journal, Virginia Business magazine, Richmond Magazine, Inside Business and Style Weekly.
