Two prosecutors honored by peers

The Virginia Association of Commonwealth’s Attorneys has honored two assistant prosecutors for their work.

Loudoun County Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Gigi Lawless is the 2016 recipient of the Virginia S. Duvall Distinguished Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court Prosecutor Award.

Lawless is director of her office’s victim and witness assistance program. She also leads the office’s child sex crimes and domestic violence unit and is a key member of Loudoun’s Domestic Abuse Response Team (DART), which assists in coordinating a county-wide response to domestic violence.

The Duvall Award is presented annually to a prosecutor who has demonstrated outstanding service in cases originating in juvenile and domestic relations court.

Lori DiGiosia, Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney in Stafford County, received the Warren Von Schuch Distinguished Assistant Award.

“Lori is a leader in our association and a  frequent lecturer at training offered by the Commonwealth’s Attorneys Services Council,” said Stafford Commonwealth’s Attorney Eric L. Olsen. “Last week she gave a lecture to 700 Virginia prosecutors on the 2016 General Assembly session and the new laws affecting prosecutors,” he added.

The Von Schuch Award is presented annually to the assistant commonwealth’s attorney who has demonstrated extraordinary service to the Virginia Association of Commonwealth’s Attorneys, to the legal community and to the pursuit of justice.

The awards were presented at the VACA annual spring conference in Norfolk this month.
