The Virginia State Bar/Virginia Bar Association Joint ADR Committee will be hosting “A Place at the Table: a Symposium on Attracting 21st Century Clients and Efficiently Solving their Problems” in Richmond on Monday.

The symposium agenda will explore how ADR fits in the practice of law now and how honing negotiation and other dispute resolution skills will be critical for the future as the practice of law changes, according to organizers. Online registration is available.

Scheduled presenters include retired Supreme Court Justice Leroy F. Millette Jr.; Mark Rubin, Executive Director of VCU’s Center for Consensus Building; Lawrie Parker, Executive Director, Piedmont Dispute Resolution Center; Bryan Hanson, Ombudsman, Virginia Tech; Samuel S. Jackson, mediator and adjunct professor of law at the University of North Carolina law school; Julia Morelli, president of the George Mason University Instructional Foundation, Inc.; Washington lawyer Melinda Biancuzzo; Sen. Jennifer McClellan, assistant general counsel for Verizon Communications and Jack W. (JB) Burtch Jr. of Richmond.

The conference starts at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 25 at the Troutman Sanders building in Richmond.

Members of the Joint ADR Committee recently help plan and present one of 40 international dispute resolution conferences held around the world. The Mid-Atlantic Global Pound Conference Series was held June 8 in Baltimore.
