Free legal clinic offered to help Virginia veterans

PETERSBURG (AP) A free legal clinic is being offered to help Virginia veterans draft estate planning documents and answer questions about state and federal benefits.

During the event, volunteer attorneys from Attorney General Mark Herring’s office and the Virginia State Bar will help low-income veterans by drafting wills, powers of attorney and advance medical directives.

Representatives from the Virginia Department of Veterans Services will also be present to answer questions regarding benefits that may be available to veterans.

Qualified veterans can sign up on Herring’s website, at their local DVS Benefits Services Field Office, or by completing and mailing an application to Herring’s office.

The event will be held on July 10 at the Petersburg Freedom Support Center.
