Lawyer accepts 2-year suspension for litigation lapses

Peter Vieth//January 24, 2019

A Fairfax lawyer has agreed to a two-year license suspension for undermining his clients’ case in a residential renovation contract dispute.

The suspension of John Patrick Bond by the Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Board follows a public reprimand in 2013 for repeatedly missing litigation deadlines and court dates.

An agreed disposition dated Jan. 17 states that Bond has terminated his law practice.

The latest bar charges arose from Bond’s representation of a contractor in a dispute with homeowners over a renovation project. The bar charged that Bond failed to respond to a counterclaim on time, failed to pay the opponents’ attorneys’ fees as ordered, and failed to advise his client of adverse developments in the litigation.

The two-year suspension was effective Jan. 17.
