Lynchburg court clerk to retire

Lynchburg Circuit Court Clerk Eugene Wingfield says he will not seek re-election this year, meaning his last day will be Dec. 31.

Wingfield says he has been in public service for almost 45 years, as a police officer, an investigator for the prosecutor’s office and as the elected clerk.

In his retirement announcement, Wingfield endorsed retired Lynchburg Police Deputy Chief Kenneth Todd Swisher for the clerk’s position.
