FAIRFAX (AP) Prosecutors say a Fairfax County man shot his wife to death, then shot himself and placed the gun in her hands to cover up the crime.
A Fairfax County jury found 55-year-old Laszlo Pentek guilty of first-degree murder Aug. 9 in the 2017 slaying of his wife, 51-year-old Donna Pentek.
During the seven-day trial, prosecutors painted a picture of an elaborate cover up made by Laszlo Pentek, The Washington Post reported. They accused him of finding documents detailing his wife’s bankruptcy, shooting her, then creating the impression that an altercation had occurred and she killed herself.
His defense contended Donna Pentek killed herself and argued forensic evidence didn’t fit the prosecution’s version of events.
Laszlo Pentek faces 39 years in prison upon sentencing in December.
