The Catholic Diocese of Richmond says it has hired the Richmond firm of BrownGreer PLC to administer a monetary settlement program for victims of clergy sexual abuse.
The diocese says the program, announced Feb. 17, is part of an ongoing reconciliation process to assist abuse survivors in their healing.
“We have watched as dioceses throughout the country have embraced reconciliation programs similar to this program and noted the benefit to victim survivors,” said Bishop Barry C. Knestout in a news release.
The program will be funded by the Catholic Diocese of Richmond, but the diocese says it will not use money from an annual giving campaign or a capital improvements appeal.
Attorney Lynn Crowder Greer will administer the program, the diocese said. The diocese posted a 14-page protocol for claims. The deadline to initiate a claim is April 3.
