Former Frederick County prosecutor Lawrence R. “Larry” Ambrogi died Sept. 22. He was 83.
Born in 1937 in Washington, DC, Mr. Ambrogi received his bachelor’s degree from Randolph-Macon College and his law degree from American University.
He was appointed Frederick County commonwealth’s attorney in 1969 and was first elected in 1971. Mr. Abrogi, who ran as a Republican, was never challenged in the eight elections that followed.
Mr. Ambrogi served as commonwealth’s attorney for 38 years until he retired in 2007, making him the second-longest-serving Virginia commonwealth’s attorney.
Outside of his legal career, Mr. Ambrogi was an active member of the Winchester Moose Lodge and the Masonic Lodge.
He also was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Winchester.
Survivors include his wife, Carole; a daughter, Elaine; a son, Lawrence; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
