VSB proposes to cut bar delinquency fees

The Virginia State Bar is open for comments on a proposal to reduce the delinquency fees associated with some administrative rule violations for lawyers.

Failing to comply with non-MCLE membership requirements brings a notice from the bar demanding compliance within 60 days and payment of a $50 delinquency fee. The VSB proposes to reduce that fee to $25. A $150 reinstatement fee would be cut to $75.

The VSB staff plans to ask the Bar Council for the okay to petition the state Supreme Court to make the changes.

Comments for or against may be sent to VSB Executive Director Karen Gould by Jan. 8. Comments may be submitted by mail to 1111 East Main Street, Suite 700, Richmond, VA 23219-0026 or by email to [email protected].
