Candidates sought for federal judgeship

Virginia’s two U.S. senators have invited applications from candidates for the seat of U.S. District Judge James P. Jones who will take senior status Aug. 30.

The Virginia State Bar is planning to evaluate candidates and report to the senators. Various Virginia bar groups generally make their own recommendations, as well.

Relevant information, including a mandatory questionnaire, may be found on Sen. Mark Warner’s website. The deadline to submit materials to the senators is March 8.

Candidates who desire to be evaluated by the VSB should submit a resume, a brief writing sample and responses to a questionnaire (a Word document) on the VSB website. Those application materials should be sent to judicialeval@vsb.org. The deadline for VSB submissions is 4:30 p.m. on March 8.

Interviews will be conducted by the individual members of the VSB’s Judicial Candidate Evaluation Committee.

The Virginia Bar Association posted information on its website for candidates seeking VBA evaluation.
