Two in Virginia invited to join Inner Circle of Advocates

Two Virginia lawyers – Jeffrey Breit and Scott M. Perry – have been invited to join the Inner Circle of Advocates, a group of the nation’s top plaintiffs’ lawyers.

Founded in 1972, the invitation-only group has 100 members. Its mission, according to its website, is “to promote the highest standards of courtroom competence and the mutual fellowship and exchange of knowledge among outstanding trial lawyers.”

Membership is considered the top honor for a trial litigator.

According to The New York Times, “The Inner Circle Members take great pride in the spirit of cooperation that permeates their meetings, a spirit they attribute to the fact that they are equally lustrous and to the careful screening of candidates designed to weed out showboats and self-promoters.”

Breit is a founding partner of Breit Cantor Grana Buckner, with offices in Norfolk and Richmond.

After the April 2010 BP/Deepwater Horizon explosion, Breit was part of a group of 15 attorneys appointed by the court to a plaintiffs’ steering committee. This became the largest environmental trial in history resulting in over $40 billion in payouts by BP, Haliburton and others for their negligence.

Breit served as the manager of the Virginia Beach tragedy fund following the 2019 shooting at Beach government offices; he distributed an excess of $4 million to victims after meeting with each family to understand individual circumstances and needs.

Perry is a founding partner of Perry Charnoff, with offices in Arlington and Washington, DC.

He limits his practice to plaintiffs’ catastrophic injury cases such as truck accidents, wrongful death, product liability and medical malpractice.

Perry has been board-certified in Civil Trial Law by the National Board of Trial Advocacy, the oldest and largest not-for-profit ABA-accredited trial attorney certification program. He also volunteers for and supports Brain Injury Services, a Virginia organization dedicated to helping brain-injured children and adults build the skills and confidence they need to lead a fulfilling and productive life.
