Best known for:

Birth injuries, eye surgeries, surgical errors and misdiagnosis/delayed diagnosis.

Signature case / representation:

Erin Locascio v. Thomas Raley, M.D., et al., from Stafford County. I represented a mother who underwent spinal fusion surgery during which the surgeon negligently lacerated her major blood vessels nearly causing her death. She recovered, but was left with a brain injury. No offer was made by the defendants. The case was tried to a $2.5 million verdict (but reduced to the cap). It was so rewarding to obtain justice for such a lovely family.

Satisfying aspect of practice:

Advocating and obtaining justice for injured people who now, with their injury, have to fight against powerful insurance carriers.

Working with clients:

I tell clients that if I agree to take their case, I will do so with the mindset that we are going to trial. I advise them to be honest with me and not to alter their lifestyle because of litigation. I remind them that I will always be candid and give the best advice I can, which might not always be what they want to hear.

Advice:

Never lose your sense of humor or purpose, and your word is your bond.

Outlook:

I hope to see the medical malpractice cap extinguished. It is so unfair and unjust to the most seriously injured.
