Thurmond Carlyle Lea Jr., a retired attorney from Orange, died Aug. 5 after a long illness. He was 74.
Mr. Lea was born in Washington, Va., and graduated from Augusta Military Academy, Virginia Tech and the University of Richmond law school. He began practicing law in 1962 and practiced most recently at Lea Law Inc. with his stepdaughter, Catherine Buckner Lea.
He retired last year because of corticobasal degeneration, a rare neurological disease with symptoms similar to Parkinson’s disease.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Fletcher Smith Lea, six children, a dozen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
