Verdicts & Settlements publication policy

Virginia Lawyers Weekly publishes “Verdict & Settlement Reports” to provide lawyers a resource to judge the value of cases. The information contained in these reports is typically provided by one of the lawyers in the case, although we may occasionally source information from court records or news reports.

We reserve the right to edit all submissions for style, grammar, length and content. All submissions must be made through our online form. We will not publish submissions via email, fax or postal mail.

To be published, a report must:

Include the case name, the court name and the docket number. VLW may withhold this information from the published version in certain cases but the information must be provided to us for verification.
Include the date of the verdict or settlement, the name of the judge, the amount of the verdict or settlement, and, if it is a defense verdict, the plaintiff’s demand. This information cannot be withheld from publication.
Include the names of the lawyers for all of the parties. VLW generally withholds the name of the lawyer for the “losing” party (the party that did not submit the report).
