$1.3 million settlement

Injuries alleged: Multiple pelvic fractures, spinal fractures, right tibial plate fracture, internal bleeding and hemorrhagic shock

Date resolved: June 16, 2026

Special damages: $486,265 in medical expenses

Amount: $1.3 million

Attorney for plaintiff: Rakin R. Hamad, Alexandria, Curcio Law

Case description: The plaintiff, a 49-year-old motorcyclist, suffered injuries when the defendant motorist unlawfully crossed through barriers separating express lanes from general purpose lanes on westbound Interstate 66 in Fairfax County. The motorist entered directly into the plaintiff’s path on the express lanes, causing the plaintiff’s motorcycle to crash into the rear of the defendant’s vehicle.

There were multiple videos of the collision, including traffic camera recordings and dash camera recordings from witnesses traveling behind the plaintiff. These videos proved that the plaintiff attempted to brake and could not avoid the crash.

The client suffered extensive orthopedic injuries and remained hospitalized for nearly one month before being transferred to an inpatient rehabilitation facility. The case was resolved through a global settlement of $1.3 million, which included contribution from four different insurance policies.
