A New Kent County woman has been sentenced to two years and nine months in prison for mortgage loan fraud.

Nicole G. Hathaway pleaded guilty in Richmond federal court in September. She was sentenced March 14.

The 34-year-old Hathaway was the president of Mortgage Solutions II. She admitted that to get commissions, she attempted to obtain nine fraudulent real estate mortgage loans totaling more than $1 million. One of the attempted loans was refused. The total losses on the other eight were about $568,000.

According to prosecutors, the scheme involved overstating the creditworthiness of the buyers and inflating the value of properties
