VBA honors Stolle, Warner, life members

The Virginia Bar Association honored Virginia State Sen. Ken Stolle and U.S. Sen. John Warner during its annual summer meeting at The Homestead earlier this month.

Stolle received the VBA’s Distinguished Service Award for his multi-year campaign to improve the state’s indigent defense system. The Distinguished Service Award is presented in recognition and appreciation of exceptional service and contributions to the bar and public at large. Previous recipients have included Lewis F. Powell Jr. (1988), Emerson G. Spies (1990), William B. Spong Jr. (1992), Harry L. Carrico (1993), Hunter B. Andrews (1995), George M. Cochran (1997), W. Tayloe Murphy Jr. (1999),

Gerald L. Baliles (2001) and Whittington W. Clement (2003).

Warner was recognized by the Association and LexisNexis for his distinguished career and commitment to the rule of law.

Eleven members of the Virginia Bar Association (VBA) were recognized as VBA Life Members for 2007.

Life Members of The Virginia Bar Association are those persons who have been members of the VBA for at least 40 consecutive years and will have attained the age of 70 years no later than this year.

The 2007 VBA Life Members are Michael Armstrong, Richmond; Thomas F. Betz Jr., Virginia Beach; Bowlman T. Bowles Jr., Richmond; H. Harrison Braxton Jr., Stafford; Charles E. Duke, Alexandria; Robert W. Mann, Martinsville; S. D. Roberts Moore, Roanoke; Russell H. Roberts, Fredericksburg; Alexander H. Slaughter, Richmond; William M. Sokol, Fredericksburg; and Albert R. Turnbull, Charlottesville.
