The organization created greater uniformity in hiring practices with an inclusive interview guide to avoid unconscious bias and ensure a consistent set of questions for all candidates.
Its efforts have built a team of staff and attorneys that include those with disabilities, members of the LGBTQ+ community, people of color, veterans, and a wide array of other diverse individuals. The firm also employs a chief people officer to provide representation during DEI workshops and seminars, to ensure participation in important conversations concerning challenges that marginalized communities may encounter in a professional setting.
Over the years, Fluet has employed individuals in the DACA Program, created internships for those on the autism spectrum, and made significant efforts to assist those who might feel marginalized with personalized career planning, mentorship and networking.
The firm’s mission is to create a culture that practices and demonstrates ongoing training, commitment and evaluation from candidate selection right through the daily workplace experience.
Charitable efforts abound at the boutique firm, which has organized volunteer events for groups serving an array of communities in the area. Among them was an initiative to package essential foods for the Arlington Food Assistance Center in the wake of the pandemic. Attorneys also employ their talents to lend free legal advice to marginalized communities through various nonprofit organizations.
In 2024, Fluet is aiming to build on inclusivity initiatives through partnerships with diverse law schools and a stronger presence at local career fairs. Potential efforts include designing college tuition reimbursement programs for employees and formalizing employee resource groups to continue conversation around workplace challenges.
