Virginia CLE to host National Trial Advocacy College at William and Mary

After more than four decades at the University of Virginia, the National College will have a new home beginning in 2026.

Virginia CLE will host the National Trial Advocacy College at The College of School in 2026, according to an Oct. 14 release from the .

The move will see the college depart its original home, where it was founded in 1981 by law professor Stephen A. Saltzburg and former U.S. District Judge Herbert J. Stern. The program sees more than 100 lawyers attend a week-long program intended to educate attorneys on trial advocacy skills, culminating in with critiques from trial lawyers and judges.

“William & Mary Law School, the nation’s first law school, brings a strong tradition of advocacy education and a commitment to shaping practice-ready citizen lawyers,” A. Benjamin Spencer, dean of the College of William & Mary Law School, said in a statement. “This new partnership with the Virginia Law Foundation honors our rich legacy while positioning it for continued excellence in the decades ahead.”

The 2026 National Trial Advocacy College will be held Aug. 8-12, 2026. The program is limited to 120 attorneys and up to 30 College of William & Mary law students, who attend the program on scholarship.
