Years in practice: 31
Best known for: Being a knowledgeable and zealous workers’ compensation defense advocate and
pragmatist who understands both immediate case posturing and eventual resolution of litigated matters.
Why I chose my practice area: I was offered a position in workers’ compensation after my clerkship and realized it provided valuable work-life balance while raising three sons, plus the opportunity to handle both litigation and appellate work with satisfying case timelines.
Most memorable case: Thorpe v. Clary, 283 Va. 808 (2012), published by the Virginia Supreme Court on average weekly wage issues — though any hard-fought winner that makes clients happy is memorable!
What makes me a leader in my field: Mentoring younger attorneys, participating in the Commission’s advisory committee, and serving in the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Inn of Court to promote civility
