Virginia State Bar Executive Director Cameron M. Rountree is taking a temporary leave of absence, the VSB announced on May 6.
Rountree’s absence is related to his military service, according to the VSB. He has served in the U.S. Navy for 24 years and has been a naval reserve captain for 19 years.
The bar said Rountree is expected to return to his position in March 2027.
A member of the VSB’s staff since 2019, Rountree began serving as executive director on an acting basis in July 2022 following the retirement of his predecessor, Karen A. Gould. He was made permanent executive director in September 2022 following a unanimous vote of the VSB Executive Director Search Task Force.
In Rountree’s absence, VSB Deputy Executive Director Janet Van Cuyk will serve as acting executive director, while VSB Director of Regulatory Compliance DaVida M. Davis will take Van Cuyk’s role on an acting basis.
Van Cuyk joined the VSB in 2023 after serving as assistant director of the Virginia Judges and Lawyers Assistance Program. Davis has worked for the VSB since 2017, beginning as clerk of the VSB Disciplinary System before transitioning to her current role in 2022.
