Description of case: The plaintiff was laboring with her first child when the baby’s heart rate plummeted. The OB determined an emergency C-section was necessary and the team was summoned. The sole anesthesiologist at the hospital failed to timely arrive, despite multiple calls, until the C-section had already begun. Plaintiff was not put under adequate anesthesia until the time of the baby’s delivery.
The jury found for the plaintiff and awarded $2.5 million against defendants.
