Years in practice: 44
Best known for: Being prepared, handling serious cases, and collegiality.
Why I chose my practice area: I began as counsel to the U.S. Senate Ethics Committee, aspiring to become a trial lawyer. My first Virginia job was defense work, but I transitioned to plaintiff’s law, which I find much more fulfilling.
Most memorable case: Representing a young professional struck by an errant golf ball at Lansdowne Resort, causing a life-changing stroke from a dissected vertebral artery. The case settled after establishing the resort’s negligence in driving range placement.
What makes me a leader in my field: Mentoring lawyers, teaching trial advocacy at George Mason Law School, and serving as faculty on the Harry L. Carrico Professionalism Course.
Outlook for 2026: Hopeful the medical malpractice cap will be eliminated.
Bar involvement/leadership roles: VTLA Board of Governors, numerous CLE lectures
