Reston lawyer Brian M. Hirsch has been awarded the Family Law Service Award by the Virginia State Bar Family Law Section Board of Governors.

The Family Law Service Award is given to a lawyer “who has consistently given freely of time, talent and energies to provide valuable services in advancing family, domestic relations or juvenile law in Virginia, whether such services are rendered to the Virginia legal community or directly to the citizens of Virginia.”

A family lawyer for over 34 years, Hirsch practices with Hirsch & Ehlenberger P.C. in Reston. He is certified by the Virginia Supreme Court in family mediation.

For many years, Hirsch has been the volunteer editor of the Virginia Family Law Quarterly, the section’s official publication, which provides articles and summaries of notable family law cases from across Virginia.

Hirsch also is a member of the Virginia Bar Association Family Law Coalition, an advocacy group seeking legislative changes relating to family law. He regularly sits as a substitute judge in in Juvenile & Domestic Relations Courts of both Fairfax and Loudoun counties.

He co-authored the “Virginia Family Law Trial Handbook: Pleadings, Evidence and Strategies” and frequently speaks at CLEs on family law topics.

The section’s service award was to have been presented at the 36th Annual Advanced Family Law Seminar on April 16, but the event was not held. The presentation will be rescheduled.
