$1.1 million settlement
Injuries alleged: Right tibial plateau fracture
Court: Chesterfield Circuit Court
Date resolved: April 8, 2026
Special damages: Medical bills of $245,510
Amount: $1.1 million
Attorney for plaintiff: Gray B. Broughton, Sharif Gray and Nathan Hittle, Henrico County, Gray Broughton Injury Law
Case description: At approximately 4:15 a.m. on June 6, 2025, a commercial tractor-trailer operated by the defendant ran a red light and struck the plaintiff’s vehicle at the intersection of Walmsley Boulevard and Hull Street Road in Chesterfield County. An independent eyewitness confirmed the light was green for the plaintiff. The defendant was subsequently convicted of the traffic offense, and the combination of the eyewitness account, the conviction and physical evidence established liability.
The plaintiff was hospitalized for one week at Chippenham Hospital and underwent open reduction internal fixation of a right tibial plateau fracture. He also suffered significant functional losses as a martial arts instructor and fitness class instructor, disrupting both his businesses and his quality of life. Following the submission of a time-sensitive escalating demand by plaintiff’s counsel, the case settled for the full $1 million third-party liability policy limits plus the $100,000 available under the plaintiff’s underinsured motorist coverage, for a total recovery of $1.1 million.
